Electronic Voting

The blogosphere is abuzz today with talk of electronic voting. One site is even proclaiming that today is the end of electronic voting in this country!!!111!!11@@ eleventy(emphasis mine). I disagree. For one reason only. Money. A juicy government contract to provide polling machines is just way to sweet to give up. Especially since a taste has already been given. The corporations supplying the machines have lots of money. They can use that money to ply the appropriate people to ensure that next election all polling places are mandated to use their machine. In fact I would not be suprised if there is a consortium or standards body created shortly that is comprised of members of the corporations who make these machines. What better possible way to ensure that that money flows(Better to split than get nothing). Naturally, it would only follow that that body be entrusted to certify which machines are acceptable for use in elections.

What me cynical. I need to open my email.

On Spam

I have decided that I like spam. Not the spiced ham potted meat product, but unsolicited email. I have decided that this provides the opportunity for many small personal affirmations each day. To wit:

  • Attractive Singles are interested in spending time with me
  • My advice and involvement is sought in multinational business endeavors
  • My privacy and security is of such great concern to companies with which I have no formal relationship take time from take time from their busy schedule to inform me of possible threats of identity theft.
  • Major brands seek my input on their products
All of this adds up to one thing. I matter. My presence in this world is not only important but essential. And doggone it people like me!

The run was pretty good today. I skipped the sauna so that I would have time to wait in line at the polls. I was the first vote cast at my polling place! It is the last time I will do that. They are using a new system for selecting your ballot and it seems to be confusing to the election judges. It took about ten minutes for them to mark me off the list and hand me the correct ballot. Then they had not set the polling machine to accept ballots. I had to wait while it printed it's poll opening report. Happily for me it reported that no votes had yet been cast. I guess they'll add the extra ones later ;)

I started working on pulling bugzilla entries into planner-mode last night. I really need to get better with lisp. It looks as though it should be do-able though and that's pretty cool.

I am about 60% there with my extra special cornbread recipe as well! Thanksgiving should be good!

Tomorrow People
Weight: 210
Workout: 1 Mile-ish Run

Just never got a good stride going today. I ran for almost a whole mile before stepping down to a fast walk for a while then running again. Not sure what it was, just never really found a rhythm. We'll have to see what tomorrow brings. I think I will try to stick with 2 miles a day this week.

Almost ran extra today to make up for yesterday but was concerned about over doing it. I might push it tomorrow, we'll see.

It's odd how one bad meeting can really drag down a day. Even with the great meeting Josh had with the people at CAST yesterday, I was slightly disgruntled for the rest of the day. I need to come up with a strategy for turning those situations around in some sort of positive way.

Limelight
Weight: 210
Workout: None

I slept in a little today and by the time I got to the gym I was already running late. Nature called as well so I really did not do much at the gym. I should have forced myself to at least run a mile. I may go back this afternoon when Jen gets home and get the run in. I am not all that happy with myself right now.

Run was ok today. It wasn't too hard to keep going for the full two miles. I am listening to David Sedaris's book "Dress Your Family in Corduroy and Denim". It's excellent. I really need to find an electronic version of some of his other books.

Workout: 2 Mile Run

Made it 2 miles. It was pretty rough right around the 1 mile point. I think my body just wanted to stop there out of habit. I was able to push through though. I'm sure I'll be pretty exhausted later. New employee starting today. Lots to do!
