If your rss reader supports it the number of comments on a story will now show up. Of course 0 should be assumed. I was just cheesed that some rss/atom feeds display it and mine didn't. So now it does. |

Workout: 1 Mile Run Was able to force myself to run a mile today. It felt ok. I don't know why it's been so difficult to get going. For a while I was running 3 miles a day. It wasn't too difficult and the results were pretty nice. Now it's all I can do to chug out 1 mile. I think I will just try to do that for a while then step it up to 2 and so on. Memo to the state of South Dakota: Look you idiots there is a reason that you can't sue judges and juries. In simple terms just so you'll understand. The judiciary need to be able to operate in an arena where they are free to make what they believe is the correct decision, popular or not. By opening up the oppurtunity to seek legal reprisal for a decision you don't like you are tainting the process behond hope. If you are unhappy with the judgement given there is this process called an appeal. You can take that process all the way to the supreme court if you are so inclined. The threat that a lawsuit could emerge from an unpopular decsion or ruling, right or wrong, should not be a consideration for the members of the court. Judges are elected in some areas, appointed in others. In the case of those judges that are elected, you chose them. If you are unhappy with that to bad, you pays your money to takes your chances. In cases of appointments, those appointments are handled by members of the legislature which you elected. See above. As for juries, these are your peers. They are compelled to serve in the process and in so doing are able to act without fear of reprisal. In so doing they are able to make what should be the correct decision. Again if you are unhappy with the outcome, there is an appeal process in place. That is one of the foundations of our system. We choose who represents us. We give them the authority to make decisions for the benefit of us all. If you are unhappy with those decisions you are able to make a change in the system. You do this by being involved in the process and doing what is possible to get officials elected who make the decisions you like. Simple as that. Tearing down one of the controls in place that helps to ensure an impartial and fair process is asshattery. Please stop. |

This weekend I spent some time trying to get the subversion support for emacs to recognize the "underscore" hack for subversion. In the normal world subversion creates a directory called ".svn" in the directory of code that is under its care. On windows, specifically for websites this is not a good thing as IIS has issues. To handle this subversion can be set up to create a directory named "_svn." Emacs only considers the ".svn" instances and this was causing issues for me at work as it was not correctly identifying svn handled files. To handle this in the past I would simply search and replace ".svn" with "_svn" in vc-svn.el. Not really an elegant fix. I knew it couldn't be that hard to modify the code to look for either ".svn" or "_svn." The only obstacle was my poor knowlege of emacs lisp. I spent some time playing with it and was able to get the or form to handle it. I was able to test it this morning at work and it seems to be working as I expected. w00t ++Ari. I sent a patch of my changes to the emacs mailing list and will wait to see what they think of it. for now I have a patch that can be applied to the source during future builds. If they accept the patch then I won't even have to do that. If I'm really lucky they may include my name somewhere in the credits! |

Workout: 40 Minutes Treadmill Yikes!! too much junk food lately I think. Going to have to run like 10 miles this week to get back down to normal. Had a good weekend. Got the shed cleaned. Watched "The Thin Man" with the Jen on Saturday. Spent yesterday in Springfield with Jen's dad and his family. It was a great time. I like nice weekends like that. |

Workout: Not Much Slept in a little this morning. Didn't do much at the gym because of that. My back is still a little stiff. I tried to take it easy with the kids yesterday. Carrying them up and down the stairs may have been a bad idea. |

Workout: 30 Minutes Bike Didn't feel like running at all this morning. Did the exercise bike instead. My back is a bit stiff today. I think I need to get up and move more during the day. I also think rolling around on the floor with Bean and Owen last night may have contributed. |

Workout: 1 Mile Run Only made it 1 mile today. Felt good though. I think I will try for 2 again tomorrow. I think that Brad Barker Honda must be having some issues this month. I have received 2 letters in the mail letting me know that 1) I bought my CRV 8 years ago and 2) The salesman who sold it to me recently retired. That isn't so bad. But I have also received 2 phone calls one to my home and one to my office that have explained the same situation. Must be trying to make some numbers for the month. |

Workout: 2 Mile Run Ran 2 miles today. It felt pretty good. The endorphins are running through my system! Of course in an hour I'll be exhausted. I have been integrating NUnitAsp into a project here at work. It is nice although there are a few gotchas. The first is that the HttpClient that the framework uses is fairly stripped down. What this means is that JavaScript is not handled. This really isn't a huge drawback unless you are incorporating AJAX into the app. In my case I make an AJAX call back to the server when a user enters a Zip code. Since there is no JavaScript interpreter that call doesn't happen so That portion of the application cannot be tested in an automated way. In researching yesterday I looked at a information on FIT,FITNess, and Selenium which all seem to have a way to deal with that. I will have to look at them more closely. The second Issue I am running into with the framework is that it doesn't maintain state. Of course this is expected for a unit test framework. Each test should run independant of the others. However it makes for some ugly setup and teardown in the tests when you have an application that uses more than one page. Especially when the pages assume that a previous page has been filled out. Still, It is nice to have even a rudimentary test that validation and basic actions are taking place. Also, I do not have to manually run through the application to make sure a change in one place has killed something in another place. The only other Issue I have one is really somewhat minor but still kind of annoying. Testing controls that get rendered funny, like radio button lists is difficult. In creating a page I can add a radio button list to the page and assign options to it. When it is rendered it is presented as a table with cells each containing a radio button named "listname_choiceNumber" To test it I have to create a tester object for each choice. It just seems kludgy and cumbersome to me. Although it does work so I can't complain much. In other news we are extending an offer to a new employee this week. It will be nice to get a new person in and to start really working as a team. I think once the new person is on board and situated we will take one or two days and do a "mini retreat." There are some goals and objective I want to set forth as well as some tools and methodologies I would like to start using. Both Josh and the new person both seem as excited about this as I do. That is really great and I think that bringing these about will make for interesting and more enjoyable development. |
