You Got Lucky
Weight: 215
Workout: 3 Mile Run

I decided to run this morning. I did 3 miles at 5.0. That's 12 minute miles. Not too shabby considering I hadn't run for a while. I might keep this up for a while and see how it goes.

I had a physical yesterday. My BP was a bit high, 140/90, I'm not too concerned though since I had fried chicken, mashed potatos and country gravy the night before and potato chips and pretzels at lunch. cholesterol was 193. The Dr. wants me to come back in 3 months for a check on the BP and Cholesterol. I think if I keep the running up that things should be in better shape.

Looks like our family genetics are catching up with you too huh? Welcome to the club of 140/90 and 200 cholesterol. Nana had a fasting cholesterol of 500 and BooBoo had a resting blood pressure of 210/110 the deck is stacked against us. I'm trying cousin George's ZoneDiet with fish oil. We'll see how that works. He's 60+ years old and looks like he's 40 so he might be on to something!

I don't know right before the gall bladder surgery my BP was at 120/70 which ain't bad. I think that not running or pushing as hard as I should lately hasn't helped. not the diet leading up to the physical. we'll see where it's at in 3 mos. I'm sure the genetics ain't helping the situation though.

Well blood pressure is variable too and always fluctuating. It probably could have been taken 10 mins later and been different. Trust me I know. I've gotten 160/100 readings and then 15 mins later 135/80.

Normal is 120/80. 20 years ago 140/90 wasn't considered a problem. Point is; it's a moving target. As I've learned over the last 2 years there's little to worry about unless you consistently get readings above 140/90.

Although I'm not 100% sure of this it seems our genetics have a predisposition towards hardening of the arteries. I guess we'll both find out as time goes on.

I'll send you the book cousin George sent me when I done with it, or pick it up yourself <http://www.amazon.com/Week-Zone-Barry-Sears/dp/006103083X>. The guy has some very good science and ideas behind the diet and explanations for what we do wrong in regards to diet and our biology. I won't reiterate it here, but basically we eat too much grain and if you look at some of the healthiest and longest living cultures on the planet right now, these people eat very little grain and mainly protein and fruits and vegetables and "good" fats. The ones with the biggest problems spend way too much time eating cakes, bread, pasta and other grain products and hardly any of the rest. He also talks a lot about why chemically in our body this doesn't work well in regards to hormones and insulin and stuff. It's very interesting and makes a lot of sense. Anyway, that's enough about that.
